Country

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of rivers, and many of its lakes were made by them: karst springs, travertine barriers and dams on the Neretva, the Drina and the Vrbas.

Near Jajce, the two Pliva lakes are separated by travertine barriers, with the old wooden watermills of the Mlinčići between them. In the Neretva basin, the reservoirs of Jablanica and Rama lie between steep limestone mountains, and in the high Dinarides small glacial lakes on Zelengora and Treskavica reward a day's hike.

Lake season runs from late spring to early autumn; the mountain lakes are best reached in summer.
