Đerdap National Park follows the Serbian bank of the Danube through the Iron Gates, the longest gorge in Europe, from Golubac Fortress downstream. The river here is a reservoir behind the Iron Gate dams.
The park protects forests rich in old relict species and the archaeological sites of Lepenski Vir and the Roman road along the gorge. Many of its trails can only be walked with a park guide.
