Cres

The island of Cres in the Kvarner Gulf holds one of the Adriatic's surprises: Vransko jezero, a deep freshwater lake in the middle of a limestone island surrounded by the sea.

The lake supplies the islands of Cres and Lošinj with drinking water, so its shores are protected and swimming is not allowed; it is best seen from the viewpoints above it, on the road across the island.
