Plitvice Lakes National Park

Directions

National parkUNESCO World Heritage site

Croatia's oldest and largest national park protects the Plitvice Lakes: a chain of terraced lakes joined by waterfalls, where travertine barriers keep growing and reshaping the cascades. The surrounding beech and fir forests are home to bears, wolves and lynx.

Wooden boardwalks and marked trails lead along the Upper and Lower Lakes, and the park's electric boats cross Lake Kozjak between them. Swimming is not allowed anywhere in the park, and visitors stay on the marked paths.
