Region

Dalmatia

Dalmatia's lakes lie in the karst behind the Adriatic coast, between the islands and the Dinaric mountains.

Vransko jezero near Biograd is the largest natural lake in Croatia, a nature park whose reed beds draw birds all year. Inland, the Krka widens into lakes between its waterfalls, and near Imotski two deep sinkhole lakes, the Red and the Blue Lake, lie close to the town.
